I just wrote a short story that touched on this , Nina Szarka, based on a young woman friend of mine years ago.
She’s not the focus of the piece, but her alienation is central to the conflict.
I based her on a real-life friend of mine. Karen was a smart, strong, accomplished young woman who was almost always judged for her “beauty” and sexuality rather than for her professional abilities.
And because she didn’t value “nice,” she was was fairly roundly reviled in my liberal set of friends.
