I just keep finding personal connections here! After the AIDS crisis was largely contained, and after my first partner died, I moved to Montreal to be with a man I fell in love with. Eventually, we ended up fostering and raising a child who badly needed a home. He was literally at the point of being institutionalized and thrown away. All the experts said that he would never be able to live a fulfilled life, because he had too many challenges. All the experts were wrong, as it turned out, because we gave him a chance.
I'm always astonished when people oppose queer people adopting. Because I know what powerful good it can actually do.
