I interviewed one of the leaders of GLSEN not so long ago. They're a US group that advocates for LGBTQ youth in school.

I asked him what the most important thing is, in his opinion, that we can do individually to advance acceptance and inclusion.

He repeated the same thing that a Lambda Legal director told me in a different interview (paraphrasing):

Go to your local school board and council meetings to raise your voices. Let your representatives know how you feel. Make sure you vote in your local elections. National elections get the most news coverage, but the local ones are where you can really make the most difference.
