I interviewed Lambda Legal’s youth advocacy director shortly before Christmas to discuss waves of book banning and other emerging trends harming LGBTQ youth and other minority youth in schools. I wanted to know what positive steps he recommended for countering book banning and certain officially sanctioned bullying.

His number one wish, he told me, is that more concerned parents on the left attend and speak at school board meetings. He could not stress it enough. Go to school board meetings. Speak at school board meetings. Send messages of inclusion and love that let everyone know the vocal fascist right is a minority.
