I hear what you’re saying, but marriage has always been a civil institution in the United States. At no point in our history did it legally intersect with religion. No religious institution in the United States has ever had a stake in how marriage operates.

So now that gay people can get married, some religious people are offended that we took their name for the practice. No, it was never their institution to begin with and if they want to change it now become our full human rights have finally been recognized, well …

Our reaction is essentially this: Eat shit, homophobes. We hope you suffer. We are equal, and if you don’t like it, you can shove it.
