I haven’t actually personally experienced this feature yet, but when I first heard about it I thought initially that it would be nice for blind people. Though from what I understand, blind people tend to already have their own text to voice applications.
I’m disappointed to hear that the feature has rolled out so badly, though I’m not surprised. Medium software seems to be singularly bad most of the time these days.
I was corresponding with a semi well known LGBTQ historian the other day, courting a contribution from him for Prism & Pen.
I was horribly embarrassed when he commented to me that the software he was reading our stories on seemed like it was designed by 8th graders.
It’s sadly true that the new Medium mobile app is so riddled with bugs and so dysfunctional that people come away from it feeling like they’ve had an entirely unprofessional experience.
I’m still hoping this historian will contribute to our publication, but if he does it will be despite his bad impression about Medium’s professionalism.
I hope Medium fixes the problems you’ve mentioned with the text to voice function. We don’t need any more signs of unprofessionalism.
