I have had very good success photographing hummingbirds, though I’m afraid I don’t have anything as splendid as Erika’s photos.
I have seven feeders, with two of them right outside my kitchen window so I can take photos right through the glass. The other five are within about 20 yards of my front porch, so on a nice day I can sit there with the camera very patiently waiting for them to hover and feed for a while.
Sadly, among the ruby throated, which are the only kind we have, the females seem to be much more likely to sit and rest for a while. The males are harder to capture in a photo because they flit so much more.
