I had forgotten that particular chant! I was on the other side of the country at the time, but marching with Queer Nation in New York City, that was one of our go-to rallying cries, along with the more remembered, "we'rw here, we're queer, get used to it."
So much of your story really resonates with me, because in many important parallels, it could be mine.
