I guess my end-game thinking is that one day police should be welcome at Pride. That genuine reform will take place and protecting and serving people will become what policing is actually about.
I see the banning of uniform police is sort of shock therapy to wake the police off and let them know that their current conduct is unacceptable and intolerable. I’m a little discouraged that people who are privileged enough not to usually fear the police are sort of closing their eyes to the legitimate fear many marginalized people do experience.
Your point about de-escalating is really important, though, and something definitely worth thinking about in a big way.
