I guess I've always seen his work as illuminating rather than celebrating. When he makes disturbing images look or feel attractive, I don't see it as him idolizing those images, but as him making us uncomfortable in how we might feel about them at first look.

That's how I relate to a lot of his art, anyway, though of course how one responds to any art is highly personal and can vary widely from individual to individual.
