I grew up in mainstream, mostly Baptist, Evangelical churches. I heard in Sunday school class and from the pulpit constantly that the American people had replaced the Jews as God’s chosen people.

Most Evangelicals take thas as fact, and would be shocked if somebody tried to tell them it were not true. They’ve been taught it since they were toddlers. When people talk about toxic American exceptionalism, sometimes I think they don’t understand that religion tends to be the root cause of that.
