I grew up in Evangelical Christianity and witnessed the exceptionalism and neighbor-redefining up close and personal.

Things weren’t as bad then, but in retrospect the path toward Christian Trumpism was obvious. When the “world” becomes everything undesirable outside your in-group, and when your neighbors are redefined to be only that small group of people who hold to your beliefs, then Christianity becomes something exclusionary and ugly.

But it looks warm and inviting from the inside, because you’re one of the chosen ones.

The question is, was a Trump-like figure inevitable under these circumstances? Once Trump falls, as he eventually will, what happens then? Will the Evangelical movement find another savior warrior or will the Trump fallout change the Evangelical movement?
