I get this sort of thing on Twitter all the time, and it’s really frustrating. I’ll promote a story about an injustice going on somewhere, and people will pile on, responding something like, What did you expect? Georgia (read: Louisiana, Utah, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, etc) is such a fucked up state.

Like, how is that helpful? First, the people I’m writing about in the story in the first place live in that state. so do lots of other people who are fighting that injustice, some of whom I probably wrote about in the story.

But instead of reacting in support of the people who need help, people just want to curse the state in general.

I feel like pulling my hair out sometimes.

And as you write about so well, this tragedy in Texas has hurt and even killed a tremendous number of people. We ought to be trying to do something to help, not cursing Texas.
