I first encountered Taylor Swift’s reputation as a queer ally through young gay friends of mine in the UK who treat her with the sort of diva deference my generation reserved for the likes of Midler and Madonna.

I was a little surprised until I started digging in, because like you I experienced her through a prism of her earliest reputation.

While I am sort of accustomed to not speculating about the sexual orientation of allies, given Swift’s lyrics and public commentary, I actually don’t think she would mind.

It might even be what she intends.
