I find it sad and telling that people are getting upset about a game that centers around storytelling that can be about anything a given group of players wants it to be about.

I haven’t played the game since high school and the first couple years of college, but different groups I played with played very differently. I mean, if there’s any group of people resistant to conformity, it’s D&D players. Or at least that was my experience.

So it’s disheartening to see people urging conformity to racist tropes or urging that conversations about them not happen.
