I expect things will go a lot better in 2026. Neither Mexico, Canada, nor United States would be likely to oppose #Onelove type messaging, not that there would be a need for it.
The one love campaign was meant as commentary on Qatar's brutal treatment of LGBTQ people. Players believed the armband was necessary to counter an implicit, normalizing message by FIFA that Qatar's brutality is acceptable.
Government policies in North America are much better, so we wouldn't expect to see the same kind of reaction against them.
The only question is what FIFA will do if Mexican football associations don't manage to identify and ban homophobic fans who are shouting homophobic slurs at players during matches.
If FIFA does not come down like a hammer (and they have not done so thus far), then the world will once again be sent a very negative, damaging message.
