I don’t think there’s any getting around the fact that the definition of obscenity is always a political question.

To underline that, in a story I wrote the other day about a week of LGBTQ horror in the news, I included links to an article about a Republican-dominated state legislature that refuses to overturn a law that says written descriptions of homosexuality are obscene.

They can’t enforce that law because of a pesky little matter of the Supreme Court saying otherwise, but they want it enforced.

They know perfectly well that obscenity is always political.
