I don't think most of us Democrats want to talk about it. Progressive people tend to despise the Catholic Church for its shockingly regressive sexism, homophobia, anti-abortion stands, etc.

The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States are among the most regressive Catholic leaders on the globe. They collectively (with some standout exceptions in a distinct minority) push for laws to hurt LGBTQ people, fight against reform efforts to make women equal partners in the Church, to strip women of the human right to control their own bodies, etc.

American Catholics are fleeing the pews in huge, rapidly increasing numbers, primarily because they abhor the values of the Church and its American hierarchy.

So it's going to be pretty hard for many of us progressive people to then turn around and praise Biden for his participation.

If anything, his faithful Catholicism makes us suspicious of him, even though we know many lay Catholics are perfectly progressive.

I for one have no problem tolerating his Catholicism, but never in a million years would I praise him for it or talk it up.
