I don't know what's worse, that your mayor participated in this kind of toxic cop culture, or that the culture is so prevalent and unapologetic.

Some 40,000 members of that group participated in the mayor's yucks. He felt comfortable, because he knows what cops are like. He knows how right-wing, sneering, and toxic mainstream cop culture is.

I once had a very close friend who was a state trooper. He was a closeted bisexual man who had at one time been my lover. He has only one thing to say on the subject: "I hate cops."

He said serving in the state police force he worked for showed him that cop culture is irredeemably toxic. He says that almost all of his colleagues were horrible people – sneering, disrespectful bullies.

He studied for his RN and got out as fast as he could, leaving the force to work as a trauma nurse in the ER.

So yeah, your mayor needs to go, obviously. Moreover, Americans need to start understanding that something is deeply wrong with our police forces. If 40,000 members of law enforcement can log into a private group and bash minorities, then we know for sure that cops in the United States are really terrible people.
