I don’t know how true that is in the United States, though I guess it depends on how you define “many.” The largest Christian denominations in the United States uniformly promote and push disgusting views about LGBTQ people like me. Pastors and other leaders in the vast majority of churches in the United States spiritually abuse anyone in their congregation who happens to be a member of a gender or sexual minority.

Given that adolescents rarely have a choice about attending church, much of the spiritual abuse is involuntary. The pews are emptying out because we’re sick of stuff like that, not just us LGBTQ people, but people of good will everywhere who will not suffer abuse like this.

We recognize that most Christians are terrible spiritual abusers, and that most churches push spiritual abuse. We recognize that in practice Christianity is an evil religion, with some notable, loving, but minority exceptions.

When I drive by a Christian church, I feel fear and tremendous anger, because of the spiritual abuse I know that goes on in there constantly, and because I know that Christians are for the most part awful people who refuse to stop abusing the innocent.
