I don't know how many people remember this, but years ago Medium used to pay voice actors to read selected stories, which then got distribution boosts.

They chose one of my stories, and the reader did a brilliant job. It was thrilling to hear a professional actor interpret my writing.

That process really added value. The AI process, not so much.

I'm wondering, though, if people are forgetting disabled folks, some of whom will probably benefit from automatic text to speech, even if it isn't very good in artistic terms.

I'm just thinking out loud, though, because another part of me thinks that disabled people who need this probably already have it through third-party apps.

So I don't know.
