I don't know anything about the subject at all, other than when I lived in New York City in the 1990s, the idea that Hepburn and Tracy were gay was just taken for granted. Every lesbian and gay person I knew assumed as much and said as much, much like Kramer did years later.

Obviously, that doesn't mean it's true. Rumors take on lives of their own. But it was certainly taken as uncontroversial fact among the people I know.
