I don't know about other places, but in my state of Michigan, food assistance doesn't buy much. My elderly next door neighbor gets just a little over $200 a month in SNAP benefits, the maximum benefit for a single person.
That $200 may keep her from starving, but it's surely not buying filet mignon. (Have you seen the price of even hamburger lately?)
So I certainly agree with you about going after poor people over food benefits. It's ridiculous. It's a distraction from pressing problems that actually harm working-class people.
