I do hope you are right and this is not just a reaction to Trump, a candidate distasteful to so many Americans they’d be willing to vote for the “other party,” or at least avoid the polls.

When people speak about disaster of “Watergate proportions” for the Republicans, I can’t help but remember what happened after Watergate.

Carter came in for a one-term presidency followed by eight years of Ronald Reagan destroying labor unions and decimating liberal politics and ideals.

The Republican Party did not shift left then. I truly hope it is forced to now.
