I do get that the USCCB is an outlier with respect to how most Catholics in the US believe. But the bigger problem is that they control the purse strings of the Church here at least in terms of national policy and practice. They are currently debating whether or not to deny communion to President Biden over his abortion and LGBTQ stances.
I don’t think that by canon law they could force that decision on bishops who don’t agree with them, but it’s still a deeply problematic interference in our politics.
I have a hard time understanding why ordinary Catholics in the US (not speaking of you here, obviously, just rambling) enable them with funding. It is, to miss-use a coinage, a puzzlement.
