I do! As I wrote in a story a week ago, most Americans are sick and tired of this Christian nationalist bullshit. One example I gave in that story is that hundreds of conservative parents in very conservative Hernando County Florida showed up at a board meeting to defend a teacher who was being investigated for showing a Disney movie with a gay character in it.
The school board was dominated by ultra conservative Christian nationalists, one of whom even claimed (several times) that God himself had appointed her to the board.
Those parents were not having it. They stood up one after the other and told the board to cut the shit or face loss at the polls.
As the meeting went on, board members began to look more and more subdued and chagrined.
I see evidence of this sort of thing happening in lots of places, from Florida, to Missouri, to Oklahoma, to my own state of Michigan.
I'm not saying I feel sanguine or overly optimistic, but I do see lots of signs of hope, and I genuinely believe that working together, Americans can turn this backlash around.
