I completely agree with your observations, but I did want to share something amusing. The more things change ... the more they stay the same!
I was in a research library a few years ago and stumbled upon a translation of Sumerian documents. (I was supposed to be looking for material regarding ancient Japan, for a novel I was conceptualizing. But one does get distracted!)
Anyway, one of the Sumerian documents was from a father to his son who had left home to study to become a scribe. Very high status work requiring intensive education.
To my modern eyes, the father's letter was hilarious because even though it was thousands of years old it was completely recognizable.
He scolded his son for drinking too much wine; rumors of the son's partying had gotten back to Dad. He scolded him for not getting better grades in school. And he denied the son's request for a raise in his allowance.
Then, just to top it all off, he threatened to come to the school and live with the son for a while. If I have to do that, he wrote, you will be very displeased. 🤣
