I can say the same of myself at the same age, but because when I was 18 in Iowa, 18 was the legal drinking age, which made gay bars legally accessible. Being they were my only opportunity to meet other queer people, I'm glad of that.
Young LGBTQ adults today have more opportunities for getting together, and that's a positive development! But it still seems to me that the U.S. is something of a curious anomaly in barring 18-21 year olds from places where drinks are served.
I guess that's a result of the same sort of puritanism that ends with conservative society here disdaining queer young people themselves.
