I bet you anything that you are making more progress with strength training than you think you are. I think you're doing great. Keep it up! By the way, have you ever considered a workout buddy instead of a trainer?
Lots of people who do strength training work in pairs, because it's difficult or dangerous to do some things by yourself.
Not sure how you'd go about finding a workout buddy, but maybe start with a bulletin board at the Y itself? And on your social media networks? That could sure save you a lot of money!
