I belong generally to the camp that most often expresses frustration with writers publishing stories about how much they earn on Medium. I occasionally tell people how much I earn if they ask me privately, but I'm hesitant to do even that.

I don't want to take the focus off why I write, not even in my own head. Sure, I want to be paid for my writing, but mostly I want to be able to reach an audience.

I think you did a good job analyzing that for your own writing, so good for you. And I don't fault you for talking about earnings, knowing you haven't been on Medium very long, so you likely don't know how much built up sentiment exists against doing that.

I don't know, to my mind, the only thing that happens when you publish your earnings is that some people get discouraged because they aren't making as much while others gloat because they're making a lot more.

Personally, I just try to stay out of it. But I am happy that you're on an upward curve!
