I based that hypothetical conversation on a few real encounters I had a long time ago when a celebrated lesbian bar in Manhattan actually did close their space to men one night of the week. One whole night.
Gay men who had never even thought of going to the bar were suddenly offended. Their reaction felt so strange to me because Manhattan was filled with gay bars that catered to gay men. None of them forbade women from coming in, but ... women didn't come in. This was really before straight women trolling gay bars became a thing.
Lesbians? Well, most gay bars just didn't have anything to offer them. They were intentionally androcentric spaces.
Manhattan at the time boasted all of two lesbian bars. Think straight men didn't sometimes try to patronize them and make royal pains of themselves? Of course they did.
That's the background I was thinking of when I created my little dialogue above.
