I actually brought that up in my own comment, because while I'm an American, I raised a child while I was living in Montreal. So I didn't have to worry about creepy national loyalty oaths that contain religious religious devotion, which I particularly object to with respect to the Pledge.

But when I was a kid in the United States in primary and middle school, we stood up to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, with our hands over our hearts, every morning as school began.

Eventually, when I got to high school, we didn't do that anymore because we didn't have homerooms. We just started our schedule with the first assigned class of the day and moved directly into our academic work.

That varies from school district to school district, though. Some high school students also recite the pledge every morning.
