I absolutely agree with your point, but I don't think conservative Christians misunderstand that addition to the pledge. "Under God" was not part of the original pledge of allegiance. (Which by the way I think is really creepy even without the God addition. Loyalty oaths suck.)

The "under God" part was added by conservative Christians during the Cold War to set the United States apart as a Christian nation from the atheist Soviet Union.

I'm an atheist. Creepy loyalty oaths suck. And conservative Christians can kiss my hairy gay ass. The United States, as defined in the Constitution, is a secular nation.

The pledge of allegiance with its God reference is un-patriotic and un-American.

That's why I refuse to stand, put my hand over my heart, or in any way honor the pledge when it's recited.

How's that for bouncing and misbehaving? 🤣
