Human nature is so much the same everywhere, isn't it? I mean, our situation in the United States right now is materially different from the situation in Africa, yet ...
Our economic problems don't compare to yours in Ghana, but we do have economic problems. The working class is becoming poorer, income disparity is rising, and people in general (especially working class people) are much less well off than they were when I was a kid.
The least well-off people live in states that are very conservative, run by Republican politicians.
And what's their solution? Fight the gays! End transgender! Praise Jesus! Pray in school!
Does that help anybody? Does it help working class people live better lives? Of course not!
But it sure gives people an enemy to fight while distracting them from the fact that those politicians are lining their pockets and doing nothing to materially help the people who put them in power.
Same book, different chapter.
Sigh.
