In the 1990s, I was among protestors disrupting communion at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

We were protesting Cardinal O’Connor’s stand on using the Church’s political power to resist safer-sex education and access to condoms.

The Church is New York in those days was more than just a little homophobic.

I know things have changed a little, but I still despair that children all over the world are taught every day that we LGBTQ people are “depraved” and “intrinsically disordered.”
