How quickly we forgot. Today, we revere actors, dancers and other theater people almost as if they were aristocrats. But until about a century ago, the opposite was true. We might enjoy theater people’s work, but we wouldn’t be caught dead socializing with them. Well, unless we were Oscar Wilde, and we all know what happened to him.
