Holy macaroni! How did I miss this? As an evangelical child, I was of course deeply familiar with the Elliot story, or at least with the fractured version presented in books we all read.

Later, as a young (and not so young) man, I was smitten with Allen, delighted he’d come out as gay when doing so was a real career risk in Hollywood.

I was perplexed when he left acting and a little scandalized by some insider Hollywood stories he told.

But I never realized he started as Elliott. How fascinating! Looks like I’m going to have to track down a copy of the film.
