Heritage of Pride, the nonprofit that organizes New York City’s Pride parade, just announced that it is banning New York City police officers from the parade until at least 2025, acknowledging that many LGBTQ New Yorkers experience NYC cops as bullies rather than as protectors.

HOP resisted this move for quite some time, but they are finally giving in to pressure from grassroots and community organizers. It’s a complicated (but not too complicated!) story I will be writing about soon.
