Here’s an interesting word usage for you!

Here in Michigan, as in parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, any sorry of thickish meat-centered dish like that is called “goulash,” without so much as a nod of recognition to the Hungarian dish.

As long as it’s all cooked together and is eaten like a stew, it’s goulash.

I think many people who use the word don’t even know about the classic dish with paprika.

So interesting how language works!
