Here's a little extra tidbit about that litter box ridiculousness. When the rumor got started here in Michigan, not very far from where I live, one of the people who worked hardest to spread it was the co-chair of the state Republican Party. She posted it all over social media, including on her own official and personal accounts.

Then the very conservative, very Republican school district superintendent held a press conference, and he said he was dismayed and embarrassed that he had to even address such a ridiculous, categorically untrue rumor.

Later, he asked the state Republican Party co-chair to please communicate more responsibly. She didn't. She didn't delete any of her social media posts, and she never admitted the rumor was false.

Trans bashing is politically expedient, and she knows it. She figured this was a great issue for Republicans to run on.

Guess what happened?

The Republicans got thoroughly smashed at the polls, losing control of the state legislature for the first time in over 40 years.

That wasn't all because of trans issues, obviously, but trans bashing didn't resonate nearly as much as the Republican Party thought it would.

Today, the state party is in total disarray, with one official actually kicking another one in the balls the other day at a meeting.

I could be wrong, but it's probably going to be a long time before the party finds its way back to any kind of sensible operation. People are tired of them running on hatred and ridiculousness like litter box rumors.

And now the party doesn't know what to do.
