Here, not even the massacre of 6-year-olds has had any impact on politicians. In fact, a current member of Congress by the name of Marjorie Taylor Green endorses a cruel conspiracy theory that has dogged grieving parents – that the shooting at a primary school was nothing but a government misinformation drama, that no children actually died. She ran on that as part of her platform, and she won.
We're far beyond the point where any kind of a massacre is going to make a difference. School shootings and other mass shootings happen constantly now, and they rarely make big news unless the body count is especially large.
Just the other day, I briefly saw something in my Google feed news about a shooting, but I couldn't find it again, because almost nobody was reporting on it. It took me a while, but I managed to find local news reports about the shooting in which "only" three or four people died, then I never saw any more about it.
We're inured. Too many Americans just don't care.
