Here here! Your article resonates with me so much. Civility is for the privileged. In my life as an LGBTQ advocate and activist, I so often find bigots hiding behind civility, congratulating themselves for their social polish even as they argue for policies and positions that are toxic and even deadly.

Then they’ll trash people for expressing genuine rage back at them, rage they well deserve.

They behave as if the civility of their language somehow makes up for the horror of their message.

I don’t play that. I don’t do the civility Olympics. I call a bigot a bigot. I call out hatred and hostility matter how nicely it’s expressed.
