Hell, it’s impossible sometimes. The story I posted on Medium yesterday afternoon went kind of viral on Facebook pdq. This doesn’t happen all the time to me, but it happens often enough I’m not surprised by it.
I can’t read and reply to all those comments. Nobody could unless they had a paid assistant doing it for them.
And while a lot of the comments I’ve skimmed are pretty cool, this IS Facebook after all. A not insignificant proportion of the comments are dumb, mean, or intentionally provocative.
I’m not wading through all that, through I’m sorry not to engage with readers who are contributing much more productively.
I can usually keep up with comments on Medium itself, but then you’re more popular than me sort of in the proportion that Tim is more popular than you.
If I got say twice as many more comments on Medium than I get now, I’m pretty sure I would stop trying to keep up with them, like I already don’t try to keep up with Facebook comments.
Because at some point you just can’t, at some point it becomes too much painful work without much positive return.
