Heather M. Edwards, I don’t know what’s wrong with the USCCB, but as a gay man and a long-time LGBTQ activist, I experience Catholic bishops as forces of hatred and oppression.
We LGBTQ people know that Catholic bishops fight hard to oppress us and other minorities. They are our fierce and avowed enemies, trampling on our rights to live as free and equal people, while they encourage ordinary Catholics to do the same.
(Thank goodness upwards of 72% of American Catholics, according to PRRI, disagree with the bishops!)
So am I surprised that the bishops don’t stand up for the rights of other oppressed minorities? Hardly. It’s exactly what I have come to expect of them.
