Hear hear. I have a young trans friend, a gifted young writer whom I have mentored a little. He’s exceptional in many ways, a lovely person with a big heart and a storytelling knack that can just knock your socks off sometimes.

But he can’t exist in the world, especially the Internet, without attracting crazy amounts of vitriol just for being who he is.

Random strangers hate on him, every day, just for existing.

And you know what? People like JK Rowling are helping make that happen, by making it okay to hate on trans people.

She’s going to be okay. No matter what happens with all this, she’s fine.

My young writer friend? Maybe he’s going to be okay, maybe he’s not. Am I angry at Rowling about that? Absolutely! I wish her privileged friends would think about that.
