Hear hear! Publication owners and editors like me face a strong tension between attracting good writers and taking the time and care necessary to make sure that what we publish establishes and maintains a reputation for quality.

That isn’t at all to say that if we don’t publish something right away we think it isn’t quality. It just means we have a lot to do and maybe we haven’t got to that piece yet.

Your point about titles is so important. Much of what I do as a publication owner and editor involves suggesting better titles to people. I do that because I have a certain amount of experience, and I have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn’t work.

But while I’m suggesting that better title to somebody else, I might not be reviewing an article with a perfectly good title that was just submitted. Because everything takes time.
