Hear hear!!

I wrote an article yesterday supporting HOP’s decision to ban official NYPD presence at Pride. I think it’s not just the right call, it’s the obvious right call.

We can’t have the NYPD there officially spreading the pink-washing message that they’re just fine with queer people — while in other parts of the city they brutalize us.

But I’m taking so much shit on social media for what I wrote. Not surprisingly, I’m taking it from gay, white, middle-aged men who seem astounded that somebody’s trying to tell them there’s a problem with anti-LGBTQ police brutality today.

And they’re not just astounded, they’re angry. Which is really sad.

And that ridiculous, irresponsible op-ed in the New York Times does not help at all.
