Evangelical leaders, however, might be. The mega churches that are the heart of the Evangelical world these days tend to be led by men whose preaching gigs have made them enormously wealthy. Many of them practice conspicuous consumerism as if it were a Godly virtue.

Perhaps more important to Elon, however, is that those mega churches are powerful get-out-the-vote factories.

He's running into political problems, mostly with Democrats, as he vies for laws and policies favoring his businesses and his wealth stockpiling.

Why not get the Evangelicals and all their political power on his side? That has to be part of his motivation.
