Having grown up with it I can tell you that on the inside, the problem genuinely feels pathological. It’s maladaptive and toxic.
Having grown up in the rather lower socio-economic demographic, I could see clearly how the construct of whiteness was used to make people feel superior when they actually weren’t. Whiteness to me felt like a cup of Jim Jones' Kool-Aid.
It is a big problem, and I don’t think anything is going to be genuinely done about it until we recognize then being white is in and of itself a cancer.
