Has Anyone Seen my Muse?

This is an all points bulletin! Amber Alert!

Oh, faithful readers and fans of Medium, we have us a situation here.

I recently finished serializing two connected short stories.

The stories tackle themes of homophobia, self loathing among queer teens, and the damage done to kids and communities by queer conversion therapy.

Most people on Medium and Quora know me as an essayist, but I actually consider myself more of a novelist. My literary agent ocassionally even agrees with that assessment.

I’m happy to continue riffing on current events here on Medium, and I will. In fact, tomorrow, you can look for a piece about dominionist theology among conservative Christians and the impact that kind of thinking has on queer rights and on liberty in general.

But I would like to write some more fiction.

Even though my Caleb series did very poorly on Medium, rarely finding more than 100 readers per chapter, I’ve had enough positive feedback to think there was some value in having put in all the effort.

I think if I continue to write good fiction on important themes, that I may eventually see a return on the effort. At least I’m up for trying!

At the moment, though, my muse has gone missing. Can anyone help me find her?

I’m looking for story ideas, folks, if anyone happens to have any. I’m interested in writing about issues that contemporary queer folk have to deal with. I do specialize in YA fiction, but I don’t necessarily need to stick to that if somebody has a request for something different.

Some of you know the issues that I address most in my non fiction. Is there anything out of that you’d like me to fictionalize?

Feel free to ask me questions in the comments section or to brainstorm. I’d love to get inspired by a project I could really sink my teeth into.

Taking requests here! Fire away!
